As seen from the corner of Saint John and Church Street, The Montgomery Building is Spartanburg’s oldest office building. Constructed in 1924 and restored in 2018, it is now home to The Pharmacy Coffee, James & James Men’s Clothing, and other retail business.
Elvis Presley performed two concerts for the citizens of Spartanburg in the historic Carolina Theater located in the back half of the lobby floor. Other standout performers include the Louvin Brothers, Mother Maybelle, and The Carter Sisters featuring June Carter. The theater space is awaiting restoration as of 2022.
